accident :Three people, including two drivers and a passenger were killed in a freak mishap at Eastern Freeway on Tuesday. The driver of a speeding SUV, that was going northbound, lost his control over the vehicle and rammed into the divider. The SUV then toppled over a taxi approaching towards southbound and resulted in three casualties.
accident :According to the RCF police, the incident took place around 9 am at Jijamata Nagar near Chembur. An Innova car driven by Mazgaon resident Abdul Hameed Mehmood Hasan Sirwa (48), which was travelling from Mumbai towards Thane rammed into a divider of the Freeway and toppled on the top of a Santro cab driven by Nandal Jaiswal (46) ferrying passenger Vijay Kelkar (48), both Thane residents. At the same time, a Swift car, that was following Santro, went on to hit it. Navi Mumbai residents and friends, Mahesh Kuklekar (38) and Ajay Jadhav (33) sustained minor injuries in the mishap.
Sirwa, who driving the Innova car (MH- 04-DJ-2604), reportedly lost control of his SUV and later went on to hit the divider and then the vehicle fell on the top of the approaching Santro (MH-01-BM-5171).
“We received information about the mishap from the control room after which we rushed to the spot and with the help of fire brigade officials, we rescued the bodies and took them to the Sion Hospital for the postmortem. The injured were rushed to Shatabdi Hospital in Chembur, where they were given discharge after the medical treatment.” said Dilip Raut, senior inspector, RCF police station.
accident :He added, “Due to the intense impact of collision, Sirwa, Jaiswal and Kelkar died on the spot. However, we are probing whether the mishap occurred due to rash driving or due to some technical glitch that could have occurred in the SUV. We have informed the families of the deceased about the accident and are recording the statement of the victims. A case of accidental death have been registered.”
accident :While speaking to dna, Prabhakar Dubey, a close relative of Jaiswal, said, “Jaiswal has been driving taxi since more than 25 years. He was the only sole earning person in his family and was looking after the daily needs of his family. On the day of incident, Jaiswal had left for work around 8 am taking his daily passenger Kelkar towards Chembur from Thane. As of now his family is in deep trauma.”
