America’s Got Talent:A 12-year-old ventriloquist stole the show at America’s Got Talent on Tuesday with a stunning rendition of Summertime – which she performed with her mouth totally closed.
America’s Got Talent:Darci Lynne Farmer stepped onstage holding her rabbit puppet, apparently slightly nervous as she chatted with the judges—but any hint of stage fright disappeared as she sang the first notes of the song.
America’s Got Talent:The Oklahoma City girl immediately stunned the judges with her powerful voice, which seemed to rise miraculously from her apparently shut mouth.
Darci expertly moved the puppet around, as if the enchanting voice were coming from the rabbit named Petunia.
The amazing performance went so well Darci earned a standing ovation and the highest honor of the show.
America’s Got Talent:Judge Mel B, struggling to explain how amazing she’d found the act, reached towards the other side of the desk and hit the golden buzzer.
With that, Mel B ensured Darci would go straight to the live shows, regardless of the other judges’ opinions—although they looked just as convinced as her.
Darci, meanwhile, was left in tears, overwhelmed by the honors.
‘I love you and I believe you are going far, you just changed your life tonight,’ said Howie Mandel after she told him she had only been performing for two years.
Darci also told the cameras that Petunia had helped her find her voice and come out of her shell. Her act, she added, let her overcome shyness as she hoped to block out her fears ‘and get a little spunky’.
High praise: Howie Mandel loved Darci’s surprising performance and told the girl: ‘I love you and I believe you are going far, you just changed your life tonight’
Happy: The 12-year-old posed for a sassy picture on the red carpet on the same night she impressed judges with her incredible talent
Buddies: Simon later posed for a photo with the gifted ventriloquist after showering her with praise during the taping, telling her he’d remember her for a long time
In good company: Darci also posed for pictures with Mel, who pressed the golden buzzer in her honor, and Tyra Banks, who was making her hosting debut on the show
The girl even earned sincere praise from Simon Cowell, who over the years has earned a reputation as one of the harshest critiques on the show.
Simon, who earlier dismissed an act by saying they were not memorable, told Darci he would remember her ‘in a week, in a month and in a year’. ‘When you’ve got it, you’ve got it,’ he added.
The girl, who said she’d hoped to keep ventriloquism alive because it’s ‘not common’, came to the show with her mom, Misty who was visibly moved as she watched her daughter’s performance from the backstage area.
Misty was supported by Tyra Banks, who was making her debut as the show’s new host and kept her hands on the proud mother’s shoulders.
But after Mel hit the golden buzzer and confetti rained on the stage, Misty couldn’t resist going up to her daughter and giving her a well-deserved hug.
Happy tears: Darci was overcome with emotion as she advanced straight to the live show. She was soon joined on stage by Mel and her mother, who both came to hug her
Big hug: Mel came on stage and hugged Darci as confetti rained . She previously struggled the find the right words to explain how much the performance touched her
Support: Darci’s mother, Misty, went onstage to wrap her arms around her daughter after it became apparent the girl had done an excellent job at wowing the judges
Feedback: Howie, Mel, Heidi and Simon were back for season 12 of the NBC talent show, and all seemed impressed by Darci’s stunning singing
The mom has revealed that, even though she and Darci’s father are their daughter’s biggest fans, they once resisted her idea of singing with a puppet.
‘Actually, her dad and I discouraged the puppet for a long time,’ Misty told KFOR.
‘It was her persistence,’ Darci’s father Clarke added. ‘That’s what told us how passionate she was about it.’
The little girl initially relied on the puppet because she was too shy to sing in front of her own father.
She has been on cloud nine ever since her astounding performance. ‘These last 24 hours have been unbelievable!!’ she tweeted on Thursday.
Darci also thanked Simon on her Facebook page, writing: ‘THANK YOU MR SIMON!!! I think I’m still dreaming! I need to pinch myself! Thank you for all of the nice things you said to me.’
