Outrage at ‘King of Instagram’ over his photo of a bikini-clad woman sitting on a 100-year-old endangered tortoise
tortoise:The self-dubbed ‘King of Instagram’ is receiving backlash online for his most recent post.
Dan Bilzerian, who is known for posing in photos with scantily-clad women and huge guns, posted a picture on Tuesday of himself next to a woman in a bikini who is sitting on a 100-year-old Galapagos giant tortoise at Sir Richard Branson’s Necker Island.
The species of tortoise is protected and listed as ‘vulnerable’ by the World Wildlife Fund, and the private island is involved in wildlife conservation efforts.
One offended Instagram user said: ‘Probably not cool for your friend to sit on its back’.
Others got more vulgar on Twitter, with one user saying: ‘and the best way to show one’s appreciation for the animal is to stick a s***k on it, stay classy’.
Jamison Ernest runs a hedge fund and owns Yellow Fever Clothing, and addressed Branson, saying: ‘I’m very disappointed to see your beautiful protected creatures as zoo rides’, according to Page Six.
Bilzerian responded saying: ‘Get off your soapbox, the people working there said it’s fine to sit on them’.
However, many Instagram and Twitter users pointed out that the Galapagos National Parks specifically asks visitors not to touch or otherwise disturb the tortoises.
Branson did not respond to Page Six for comment.
Bilzerian has garnered attention online for posting inflammatory photos of nearly-naked women and large guns.
He is an American socialite and professional poker player, as well as a self-dubbed ‘trust fund beneficiary’.
The Florida native also jokingly announced his bid for President of the United States in June of 2015, before dropping out and endorsing Donald Trump.
